Jose Luis Márquez has held a variety of roles in the video game industry since 1998. Jose Luis began their career as a Web Programmer at IBM in 1998, before moving to Reyes Infográfica in 2001 where they were a Programmer developing 3D clothes sketch drawers and other 3D general purpose applications. In 2003, they joined MercurySteam as a Gameplay Programmer for American McGee Presents: Scrapland. In 2005, they became the Physics Programmer for Clive Barker's Jericho, and then later took on the role of Game Director and Lead Programmer for Zombies. In 2008, they became the Creative Director for Metroid Dread and Metroid Samus Returns, and then the Game Director and Writer for Castlevania LoS Mirror of Fate. Jose Luis also served as Producer for Castlevania LoS Mirror of Fate HD and Gameplay Programmer for Castlevania: Lords of Shadow.

Jose Luis Márquez obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid between 1992 and 1999.
