Mat Bayliss

Mat Bayliss has a diverse work experience spanning several decades. Mat is currently the Head of Generation Strategy at Meridian Energy since August 2022. Previously, they held various roles at Meridian Energy, including IT Service Manager from July 2007 to October 2009, and Contracts Manager - Industrial from July 2005 to July 2007. Before joining Meridian Energy, they worked at ECNZ (Electricity Corporation of New Zealand) as a Project Engineer/Production Advisor from 1991 to 1999. Prior to that, they took a one-year break from work in 1990. Mat also worked at Electricorp as a Senior Engineering Technician (Power Systems) from 1988 to 1990, and at EMEC Southland as an Engineering Technician from 1985 to 1988. Mat started their career at the New Zealand Electricity Department as an Engineering Technician Traineee from 1982 to 1985.

Mat Bayliss attended the Central Institute of Technology Wellington from 1985 to 1989, where they obtained a NZ Cert in Engineering (Elec) with a focus on Control Systems, Generation & Distribution. Prior to that, from 1982 to 1985, they studied at the Open Polytechnic of NZ and obtained an Electrical Technicians Certificate with a specialization in Generation & Distribution. Before pursuing higher education, Mat attended Kurow Area School, although the specific years and fields of study are unknown.
