Phil Liming has a diverse work experience in the aviation industry. Phil currently holds the position of Senior System Safety Engineer at Merlin Labs, starting in 2023. Previously, they worked at Volare Technologies Inc. for around 13 years as a System Safety, Reliability, and Certification Engineer, where they developed Systems Safety Assessments and relevant documents to comply with FAA and contractual requirements. Phil also had authorship roles in Issue Papers and White Papers. Phil also has experience as a Sr. System Safety Engineer at Joby Aviation from May 2020 to September 2021. In addition, they have been involved in STEM education as the Educational Programs Director at TriStar History and Preservation, Inc. from 2014 to 2017, and as an independent consultant, managing system safety certification efforts for the A700 aircraft. Phil has also worked at Cessna Aircraft Company as a Product Technology Engineer and System Safety Engineer, and at Aviation Technology Group, where they developed the system safety process for type certification of the Javelin Model 100 aircraft.
Phil Liming obtained their Bachelor of Science degree in Aviation Management from the University of Central Missouri from 2001 to 2004. Phil then pursued a Master of Science degree in Aviation Safety at the same university from 2004 to 2005. Phil furthered their education by earning a Master of Business Law degree at Friends University from 2008 to 2010. Additionally, they obtained certifications such as Basic Keelboat, Basic Coastal Cruising, Bareboat Cruising, and Cruising Catamaran from the American Sailing Association in March 2012. In January 2012, they also obtained an Advanced Open Water Diver certification from PADI. Furthermore, Phil acquired a Private Pilot SEL certification from the Federal Aviation Administration in August 2001.
