Colby Friday has a professional background in the energy industry, with experience at three different companies. Colby started their career at Chesapeake Energy in 2005 as a relief pumper and worked their way up to the role of Assistant Production Foreman. During their time at Chesapeake Energy, they were responsible for increasing production and reducing costs by moving between different fields. Colby also conducted field visits for Engineers and provided training for Engineer interns. In 2010, Colby joined EOG Resources as a Maintenance Foreman, working under the Sr. Production Superintendent. In this role, they trained pumpers and field employees on day-to-day operations. Colby then joined Mesa Natural Gas Solutions in 2015 as a Production Engineer. Colby collaborated with a team to design systems for customers throughout the country, offering them a more reliable and cost-effective power alternative. Mesa Natural Gas Solutions is backed by T. Boone Pickens.
Colby Friday has a diverse education history. Colby attended the University of Texas at Arlington from 2002 to 2004 but did not obtain a degree or specify a field of study. Before that, they attended Texas State University from 2000 to 2002, where they also did not obtain a degree or specify a field of study. Colby obtained an Associate's Degree in Agriculture, General from Western Texas College from 1996 to 1998. Prior to that, they attended Abilene High School from 1994 to 1996 and Snyder High School from 1992 to 1994.
In addition to their formal education, Colby Friday obtained certifications in various areas. In 2014, they completed a 40-hour HAZWOPER Training and became a HAZWOPER-Site Commander. Colby also obtained a certification in Hot Work/ Confined Space QI from the Confined Space Rescue Service (CSRS).
