Tom’s career with Messer began in 1977 shortly after graduating with a B.S. in civil engineering from the University of Cincinnati. He joined the company as a field engineer. After 28 years of advancing in his career, Messer elected him to become president and chief operating officer in January 2005. Five years later, he was elected chief executive officer. Tom retired from Messer in late 2019.

Tom is a registered professional engineer in Ohio and is a board member for the Construction Industry Round Table (CIRT). In the spring of 2012, he was honored by the University of Kentucky College of Engineering with a Construction Management Founders Society Lifetime Achievement Award. Two years later, Tom received a Lifetime Achievement Award by Cincinnati’s Spirit of Construction Foundation.

He is a past board chair of the Greater Cincinnati YMCA, and currently serves on the board of directors for Cincinnati Art Museum and the Playhouse in the Park. Tom is also a member of the Cincinnati Commercial Club.
