Lead Software Engineer at Metomic

Tom Hopkins has a diverse work experience spanning over the past decade. Tom has recently joined Metomic as a Senior Software Engineer in 2022. Before that, they worked at Made Tech from 2021 to 2022 as a Senior Software Engineer, where they played a key role in creating a new application process for UK provisional driver’s licenses using various technologies such as NodeJS, DynamoDB event streams, AWS Serverless Framework, React, and Ruby on Rails. This resulted in a significant reduction in build pipeline times and improved production issue resolution.

Prior to Made Tech, Tom worked at MBDA from 2012 to 2021. Tom held multiple roles there, including Software Team Lead and Senior Software Engineer. As a Software Team Lead, they delivered various projects for mission planning for the UK armed forces, utilizing Java, C#, and C++ for different applications. Tom also led the modernization of software delivery pipelines and provided technical coaching and infrastructure improvements.

Tom had earlier experience as a Graduate Aerodynamics Engineer at MBDA from 2012 to 2014. Before that, they worked as an Undergraduate Intern at MMI Engineering Ltd in 2011, focusing on CFD consultancy. In 2010, they were an Undergraduate Automotive Engineer at Controlled Power Technologies Ltd.

Tom Hopkins has an extensive education history. Tom started their academic journey at Prior Pursglove College from 2005 to 2008, where they obtained 4 A Levels and 2 AS-Levels with a grade A. Following this, they pursued a Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering from the University of Cambridge from 2008 to 2011. Tom continued their education at the University of Cambridge and completed a Master of Engineering (MEng) in the same field of study from 2011 to 2012.

In addition to their academic qualifications, Tom Hopkins has also acquired several certifications. In August 2019, they obtained a Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) certification from the Scrum Alliance. Furthermore, in January 2020, they achieved an Advanced Certified ScrumMaster (A-CSM) certification, also from the Scrum Alliance.
