Shane Abma

Shane Abma is a seasoned legal professional with extensive experience in municipal law and government service. Currently serving as a Senior Attorney at Metro since October 2015, Shane provides legal advice across various departments including Recycling, Housing, Income Tax, and IT. Previous roles include serving as a City Councilor for Milwaukie, both from January 2017 to January 2019 and briefly in February to June 2024, in addition to practicing as an Attorney and Of Counsel at Beery, Elsner & Hammond LLP. At the firm, Shane represented local government clients throughout Oregon, focusing on areas such as litigation, utility franchising, land use, and public records law. Further experience includes positions as an Attorney Advisor/Mediator at the United States District Court for Oregon, Executive Director of Downtown Portland Clean & Safe, Deputy City Attorney for the City of Portland, and Litigation Attorney at Davis Wright Tremaine LLP. Shane holds a Doctor of Law (JD) degree from Indiana University Bloomington, obtained in 1998.
