Suyog Rao began their career in 2003 as a Summer Internship at Indian Institute of Science. In 2004, they worked as a Research Assistant (Bioinformatics Lab) at Boston University, where they implemented a hybrid clustering scheme in R which improved run-time and produced better results for DNA analysis, and published a conference paper with the improved findings. In 2005, they worked as a Software Engineer at Cuesol (acquired by Catalina Marketing), where they were part of the team that developed a mobile shopping app before iphone/ipad was invented. In 2006, they worked as a Team Lead at Oracle, where they lead a 7 person team for supporting multi-tenancy features in Oracle BI Cloud product, and implemented role based access control for Oracle BI, as well as scalability and concurrency optimizations in C++ server to enable maximum resource sharing. In 2013, they worked as a Lead Software Engineer at Loggly, where they implemented Loggly's logging as a service product, and their team was responsible for designing and implementing a high-throughput, low latency data pipeline to ingest terabytes of logs/day using open source technologies like Kafka, Apache Storm and Elasticsearch. In 2014, they worked as a Senior Director of Engineering, Elastic Cloud at Elastic, where they led an engineering org (~85 engineers) that is responsible for the Managed Elasticsearch Service product. In 2022, they are currently working as the Head of Engineering at Metronome, leading a world-class engineering team building the usage-based billing engine that every company will love to use.

Suyog Rao received their Bachelor of Engineering degree in Information Science from B. M. S. College of Engineering between 1999 and 2003. Afterwards, they went on to pursue a Master of Science degree in Computer Engineering at Boston University, which they completed between 2003 and 2005.
