Alexander Cohen has extensive experience in transportation project development and management, currently serving as Senior Director of Project Development at the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) since August 2005. Cohen oversees units responsible for project development, program analysis, and federal grant management for the New York City Transit capital program. Previous roles at MTA include Deputy Chief of Program Analysis & Control, Director, and Staff Analyst/Principal Transportation Planner, focusing on project scopes, budgets, and modernization efforts for subway infrastructure. Prior to MTA, Cohen was a Senior Planner/Principal Planner at the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority, contributing to the 2030 Regional Transportation Plan. Educational qualifications include a Master’s Degree in City Planning from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Bachelor’s Degree in Urban Studies from Columbia University. Notably, Cohen introduced new metrics for assessing the State of Good Repair status of infrastructure assets.
