Katharine Murphy

Engineering Director, Acoustical and Mechanical at Meyer Sound

Katharine Murphy has a diverse work experience in various engineering roles. Katharine is currently the Engineering Director, Acoustical and Mechanical at Meyer Sound since February 2022, where they oversee the design and program management of projects related to loudspeaker, mechanical, and acoustic design. Katharine assigns tasks, coordinates with senior engineers and managers, and ensures on-time project completion.

Prior to this role, Katharine served as the Loudspeaker Development Program Manager and the Transducer Engineering Manager at Meyer Sound from April 2021 to February 2022 and from March 2021 to February 2022, respectively. In these positions, they played a key role in transducer development, troubleshooting, and manufacturing. Katharine led the design of transducers for new products, conducted 3D design and mechanical drawings for components, and designed tests for mechanical/acoustic function. Katharine also collaborated with Manufacturing, Quality, and Purchasing teams to ensure the delivery of satisfactory parts.

Before joining Meyer Sound, Katharine worked as a Test Engineer from January 2017 to November 2018. In this role, they developed automated test scripts, performed hardware troubleshooting, and provided signal processing analysis using various systems and tools.

Aside from their engineering roles, Katharine has also been an Advisory Council Member for Women In Leadership at California State University, Chico since May 2022. Katharine was previously an Audio Technician at USC Technical Events from September 2013 to December 2016 and an Engineering Intern at Boeing from May 2015 to March 2016, where they focused on electrical engineering projects and energy management.

Earlier in their career, Katharine worked as an Engineering Intern at the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center from May 2014 to August 2014 and as a Research Assistant at the USC Space Engineering Research Center from October 2012 to May 2013. In these roles, they gained experience in project management, research, and design within the engineering field.

Katharine Murphy completed their Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the University of Southern California. Katharine attended the university from 2012 to 2016.
