Site Reliability Engineer/Release Engineer at Mezmo

Emily Thompson has a diverse range of work experience in the technical support and site reliability engineering fields. Emily began their career in 2010 as a Student Computer Support at Western Michigan University, assisting students with programming assignments and computer troubleshooting. From 2011 to 2012, at iyeTek, they provided technical support, handling support calls and resolving Microsoft SQL database issues using C#.

In 2012, Emily joined Zephyr as a Technical Support specialist, where they addressed client inquiries on Zephyr software through email and phone, in addition to providing training to clients. Emily then transitioned to Hortonworks in 2014, working as a Technical Support Analyst. In this role, they troubleshooted complex customer issues related to the Hortonworks Data Platform (Hadoop) and handled critical production issues.

Emily's career shifted towards site reliability engineering in 2016 when they joined Palo Alto Networks as a Site Reliability Engineer. Here, they used SALT to orchestrate machines and supported multiple multitenant Cloudera Hadoop clusters. Additionally, they collected metrics using Graphite/Grafana.

From 2017 to 2018, they worked at AtScale, fulfilling the role of a Site Reliability Engineer. Emily'sresponsibilities included managing infrastructure in AWS and GCP cloud providers, automating the spin-up and tear-down of instances using Terraform, and using Ansible playbooks for provisioning. Emily also played a role in migrating Jenkins to EC2 and building continuous integration pipelines using Docker.

Currently, Emily is employed at Mezmo as a Site Reliability Engineer and Release Engineer, a position they have held since 2018.

Emily Thompson earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Computer Science from Western Michigan University, where they studied from 2005 to 2011.
