Jean-Robert Lafortune

Community Organizer

Jean-Robert Lafortune is an experienced leader in community organization and human rights advocacy. As Chairman and CEO of HAGC since November 1998, Jean-Robert has directed efforts to secure fair treatment for Haitian refugees and migrants in the U.S., Caribbean, and Latin America while advocating for government reform. Concurrently serving as a Community Organizer for Miami-Dade County since 1994, Jean-Robert has promoted community development through grassroots advocacy and leadership initiatives aimed at empowering low-income individuals. Jean-Robert also held the position of Chairman for the Haitian-American Grassroots Coalition from 1998 to 2011, focusing on social justice for Haitian nationals. A former Fellow at Florida International University, Jean-Robert conducted educational research on literacy programs in Haiti, complementing a Master of Sciences degree in International Development Education from the same institution and studies in communication and journalism in Costa Rica and Haiti.
