Terrell Powers has a diverse work experience in various roles. Terrell started their career as a Military Police Officer in the US Army Reserve from 1995 to 2004. Following that, they worked as a Security Officer for the Archdiocese of Detroit from 2005 to 2009. Terrell then served as a Distribution Supervisor at Technicolor from 2011 to 2012. From 2012 to 2013, they worked as a Mechanical Integration Technician at Unified Business Technologies, Inc., where they performed maintenance and troubleshooting work on MRAP vehicles. Later, they worked as an Engineering Technician at Advantage Technology from 2013 to 2015, primarily responsible for preventive maintenance and metal fabrication on military vehicles. Since 2015, Terrell has been employed at BAE Systems, initially as an Engineering Technician and then promoted to Shop Supervisor in 2019. Additionally, they have been serving as a Team Chief for Shower and Laundry in the Michigan Army National Guard since 2019, and previously held the role of SGT Utilities Equipment Repairer Team Leader in the Michigan National Guard from 2010 to 2019.

Terrell Powers attended Western Michigan University from 1990 to 1991, but did not receive a degree or specify a field of study. Terrell then attended Wayne County Community College District from 1992 to 1993, also without receiving a degree or specifying a field of study. In 2009, Terrell briefly studied at Abcott Institute, but did not complete a degree or specify a field of study. Finally, from 2014 to 2020, Terrell attended Macomb Community College and obtained a Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) degree in Industrial Engineering.
