Mercedes Watts currently serves as an Assistant Public Defender for Ottawa County since November 2021. Prior to this role, Mercedes gained experience as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney at Allegan County and as a Staff Attorney for Legal Services of South Central Michigan Inc. Mercedes has also worked as an Attorney at Court Appearance Professionals and owned a firm, T. Watts Law P.C., focusing on probate, family law, bankruptcy, criminal matters, and landlord/tenant issues. Additional experience includes serving as a Union Representative for UFCW, a Student Attorney at Housing & Community Development Legal Clinic, a Real Estate Law Clerk at Berkshire Law LLC, and a Marketing Manager at AMD Law Group. Educational credentials include a Doctor of Law (JD) from DePaul University College of Law and a Bachelor of Science in Political Science and Government from Grand Valley State University.
