Drew Tavss

After graduating from Virginia Commonwealth University, he joined Touche Ross and Co. (later Deloitte). Over the next several years he earned his C.P.A accreditation and was exposed to a variety of corporate clients. One of his first, and favorite, audit clients was Mid South Building Supply.

In the early 1980’s Mid South was undergoing a shift from family leadership to outside leadership and he was offered the role as Controller. In 1985, together with their president, Mel Rosenblatt, they engineered a buyout from their owner, Norman Rales through a leveraged ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan); becoming one of the first 100% employee owned, fully bank financed ESOP’s in the country.

He feel privileged to have held a leadership position with Mid South for 40 years and to have helped develop an experienced management team. The ESOP has created an environment of shared ownership that has helped them retain a talented and dedicated group of people who live their motto – 100% Employee Owned, 100% Customer Committed.
