Danny Makki

Non-resident Scholar at Middle East Institute

Danny Makki is a seasoned consultant and scholar with extensive experience in Middle Eastern affairs, particularly focusing on Syria. Since January 2019, Danny has served as a Consultant at The Atlantic and as a Non-resident Scholar at the Middle East Institute since May 2020. Danny has worked as a Freelance Syria Analyst since January 2014, contributing to over 20 major news outlets, including CNN and BBC, and has published articles in prominent publications like The Telegraph and The Sun. Danny gained recognition for breaking the story of U.S. airstrikes in Syria in April 2018. Additional roles include MENA Strategic Consultant, Opinion Writer for openDemocracy, and Freelance Foreign News Producer for Channel 4. Danny holds a Master of Science in Middle East Politics from SOAS University of London and a degree in International Relations from the University of Westminster.
