Mitch Bollinger

Mitch Bollinger, CFA, CAIA has a diverse work experience spanning over 20 years. Mitch is currently an Adjunct Professor at the College of Charleston, where they instruct the Real Estate Market Analysis class. In this role, they cover a wide range of property types and develops a curriculum that combines market data with the analysis of real estate investment trusts (REITs) for different property types.

Prior to their role at the College of Charleston, Mitch served as the Director of Research at Middleburg Communities. During their time at Middleburg, they employed machine learning techniques to create a scoring system for multifamily property acquisition and development. Mitch also built dashboards using Power BI, ESRI, and ArcGIS to provide transparency and support strategic decision-making for the company.

Before joining Middleburg Communities, Mitch was the VP Product Research at Markov Processes International (MPI). In this role, they analyzed various funds using MPI's Stylus product and utilized techniques like Black-Litterman and return simulation to produce optimized portfolios. Mitch also conducted webinars to present their original research to clients and potential clients.

As an Independent Consultant, Mitch worked as a Quantitative Researcher/Consultant, utilizing software such as Python, Pandas, NumPy, Excel, VBA, and Stata. During this time, they authored the paper "IRR: Snake Oil by Another Name" and conducted research in the field.

Mitch's earlier work experience includes roles as a VP Real Assets Research at StepStone Group, Founder and CEO of Magnolia Realty Advisors, a Real Estate Analyst at KBS Realty Advisors, and Consulting at Zenta.

Mitch began their career as an Intern at Covenant Capital Group and Ozburn-Hessey Logistics.

Mitch Bollinger, CFA, CAIA, holds an MBA in Finance and Real Estate from Vanderbilt University - Owen Graduate School of Management, which they obtained from 2002 to 2004. Mitch also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering from Virginia Tech, which they completed from 1991 to 1995. Additionally, Mitch Bollinger has earned the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Charterholder designation from the CFA Institute in 2018, as well as the CAIA certification from the CAIA Association in the same year.
