Katherine Root

Katherine Root has a diverse and extensive work experience. Katherine started their career in 2011 as a Web Developer & Designer for Get In Sell Out. Katherine then went on to work as an Interaction Designer for SRI International - AIC. In 2012, they joined Launch Design, LLC as an Interaction Designer, where they worked with clients such as Serials Solutions, LinkedIn, eBay, and Yahoo. Katherine then moved to Copper (formerly Prosperworks) in 2013 as a Lead Interaction Designer, working with a small team of engineers and designers to create CRM Software for small businesses. Later that year, they became a Design Consultant for CircleBlack, Inc., working with a small remote team of engineers and managers to create wealth management software. In 2014, they joined Simply Hired as a Product & Interaction Designer, updating existing designs and creating new ones to enhance the user experience of searching for a job. Finally, in 2015 they joined Mighty Networks as a Senior Product Designer, where they played a key role in company-wide strategy and planning conversations, mentored and interviewed new employees, established and iterated on a scalable design system, and ensured a high quality user experience bar was being met across all teams. Katherine was later promoted to Director of Design, hiring, scaling, and leading a fully remote team of 8 designers during a critical period of growth from 20 to 200+ employees following their Series B.

Katherine Root attended the University of Washington from 2008 to 2012 and obtained a BS Informatics (Human-Computer Interaction) with a minor in Interaction Design.
