Ian Fernandez

Head of Hardware at MightyFly

Ian Fernandez has a strong background in aerospace engineering and has held various roles throughout their career. Ian is currently working as the Head of Hardware at MightyFly since May 2022. Prior to that, they served as the Fuselage Team Lead and Senior Mechanical Design Engineer at Joby Aviation from April 2017 to May 2022. Before their time at Joby Aviation, they worked at Zee.Aero from April 2012 to April 2017, where they held the position of Airframe Team Lead and Senior Mechanical Design Engineer. At Zee.Aero, they led and coordinated a team of 10 and was responsible for the development, design, analysis, and integration of the airframe. Ian's earlier experience includes working at NASA Ames Research Center from October 1998 to April 2012, where they served as a Composites Design Engineer and worked on projects related to lunar orbit spacecraft, Mars landing system design, and airship design. Ian also had a summer internship at Geoscience in 1993.

Ian Fernandez received their Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, Davis, where they studied from 1993 to 1998. Following this, they pursued a Master of Science (MS) degree in Mechanical Engineering and Product Design at Stanford University from 2003 to 2005.
