Michael A. Dorman is a business valuator, consultant, attorney and a certified public accountant. He has been awarded the designation of ABV, Accredited in Business Valuation, by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants based upon meeting the experience qualifications and having passed an examination on Business Valuation Theory and Application. Mike also holds a CVA, Certified Valuation Analyst, issued by the National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts.
Mr. Dorman concentrates his practice area in the valuation of closely held businesses and professional practices, and has been intimately involved with these types of entities for over 20 years. Prior to joining Miller Cooper & Co., Ltd., he served as the Partner-in-Charge of Business Valuations for a Chicago-based accounting and consulting firm that primarily services entrepreneurial closely held businesses.
Mr. Dorman has been retained to provide valuation and expert testimony for numerous engagements with values ranging from $50,000-$100,000,000 in manufacturing, distribution, retail, construction, and professional services industries.
Mr. Dorman is a member of the National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts (NACVA), the American Society of Appraisers (ASA), the Institute of Business Appraisers (IBA) and the Business Valuation Association (BVA). He has spoken for the AICPA and the Illinois CPA Society on various valuation issues.
Mr. Dorman holds a B.A. from Carthage College, a J.D. from the University of Denver, College of Law and an L.L.M. in Taxation from the Illinois Institute of Technology/Chicago-Kent College of Law. He has also received extensive training from various organizations in the field of Business Valuation. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Illinois CPA Society and the Illinois Bar Association.
Mr. Dorman has received a Certificate of Educational Achievement in Valuations from the Illinois CPA Society. He also received the Elijah Watt Sells Award from the AICPA and the Silver Medal for the highest score on the May, 1983 CPA exam from the Colorado CPA Society.
