Aaron R. Atencio

Research Curator Of Cultural Sciences at Milwaukee Public Museum

Aaron R. Atencio, Ph.D., currently serves as the Research Curator of Cultural Sciences at the Milwaukee Public Museum and is a Research Fellow at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. With extensive experience in anthropology and photojournalism, Atencio also operates as a freelance journalist and has previously held positions as a Photojournalism Professor at Metropolitan State University of Denver and a Research Scholar at the University of Montana. Research focus includes rituals, beliefs, sacred spaces, petroglyphs, pictographs, religious cognition, and visual culture, with recent work presented at reputable international conferences. Atencio holds a Ph.D. and a Master of Arts in Anthropology from the University of Montana.
