Bart Ailey

Principal Scientist Bioinformatics at MiNA Therapeutics

Bart Ailey has significant work experience in various bioinformatics roles. Bart is currently working as a Principal Scientist Bioinformatics at MiNA Therapeutics since May 2022. Prior to that, they worked at Freeline from May 2019 to January 2022 as a Bioinformatics Manager, where they developed bioinformatics systems for gene therapy.

From March 2016 to May 2019, Bart worked as the Director of Informatics at Nanna Therapeutics, designing and implementing informatics systems for the company. Bart also served as the Bioinformatics Technical Lead at Eagle Genomics Ltd. from December 2011 to March 2016, leading the systems integration team and working on projects for various clients.

Bart also has experience as a Consultant at AstraZeneca, working on new software development projects from February 2010 to November 2011. Bart worked on projects related to drug combinations, miRNA databases, and cell assay/slide visualization. Before that, they worked as a Consultant at Rule Financial from August 2008 to June 2009, where they worked on multiple projects for a multinational investment bank.

Other positions Bart held include Group Leader at BioFocus DPI, where they led a project to improve a cheminformatics database, and as a Consultant at GSK, where they created a proof of concept exon database. Bart also worked as a Project Leader at Aneda Ltd and CSO at QBioCom Ltd, leading research and development teams and working on the Causeway project. Bart started their career as a Computational Biologist at Oxagen.

Bart Ailey completed a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Biochemistry from Swansea University, from 1984 to 1987. Bart then pursued a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Computer Science at Cardiff University / Prifysgol Caerdydd, from 1990 to 1991. Lastly, they obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree from the University of Leicester between 1992 and 1996, specializing in the field of Assignment of Protein NMR spectra Using Genetic Algorithms.
