Jonathan J. Hastings

SVP, Strategy & M&A at Minerals Technologies

Jonathan J. Hastings is the Group President of Performance Materials at Minerals Technologies. Jonathan has over 25 years of experience in the chemical industry, specializing in coatings, packaging, building materials, and sustainability initiatives.

Hastings began their career at Rohm and Haas in 2003, where they served as Vice President and General Manager of Europe. In this role, they were responsible for a portfolio of three businesses with over 560 employees and 2000 customers across Western Europe, Eastern Europe, Russia, the Middle East, and Africa. Jonathan led the company to top-line growth and improved EBITDA margins with a focus on customer intimacy, optimized product mix, and managing price vs. raw material costs. Jonathan also drove rapid growth in Eastern Europe, securing capital and investing in world’s largest Plastic Additives manufacturing plant.

In 2007, they were elected Corporate Officer and member of Corporate Leadership Council (top 40 in Rohm and Haas) at Rohm and Haas. Jonathan relocated the regional headquarters to Geneva, Switzerland and led a comprehensive sustainability program which won the “2007 Sustainability Award” from The Natural Step and Hydro Polymers.

In 2009, Hastings left Rohm and Haas to join Dow Chemical as Sr. Director of Strategy and New Business Development for the Coatings business - Global. In this role, they were the chief architect of the business’ strategic direction, mapping the rapidly changing global markets and reshaping the business’ competitive positioning. During their time at Dow Chemical, they contributed to over 30% EBITDA improvement year-on-year. Jonathan also redesigned regional strategies focused on emerging economies and led new business development, sustainability & M&A initiatives.

Hastings has been with Minerals Technologies since 2011 and currently serves as Group President of Performance Materials. In this role, they are responsible for leading a team of scientists and engineers in developing new products and applications for a wide range of industries including construction, ceramics, paint & coatings, oil & gas, personal care, plastics & rubber, glass, steel, foundry & investment casting, environmental remediation, paper & pulp, food & beverage processing, detergents & cleaners, water treatment, adhesives & sealants, mining & primary metals production.

Jonathan J. Hastings has an MBA from The Wharton School and a ME in Mechanical Engineering from the University of South Carolina. Jonathan also has a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Bucknell University.

They work with Thomas J. Meek - SVP, General Counsel, Secretary & Chief Compliance Officer, Erin N. Cutler - VP of HR, and Brett Argirakis - SVP & Managing Director, Minteq International Inc. & MTI Global Supply Chain. Jonathan J. Hastings reports to Douglas T. Dietrich, CEO & Chairman.
