John Thompson

John divides his time between Cornell University, where he is the Wold Professor of Environmental Balance for Human Sustainability, and Vancouver, BC where his consulting company provides strategic analysis and advice related to mineral exploration, mining and sustainability.

John has over 35 years of experience with the minerals industry including roles in global exploration with a number of companies, industry-related research as Director of MDRU at the University of British Columbia, and executive roles in exploration, technology and business development with Teck Corporation.

He is Vice Chair of Genome BC, a member of the Global Futures Council on Advanced Materials with the World Economic Forum, Chair for the Resources for Future Generations 2018 conference, and a director of public and private companies. He was a co-founder and President of the Canada Mining Innovation Council, co-founder and Chair of Geoscience BC, and President of the Society of Economic Geologists (SEG).
