Gustavo Manrique Miranda serves as Presidente of SAMBITO since 2001 and has held various significant positions in governmental and environmental organizations. Currently, Gustavo is the Ministro de Relaciones Exteriores y Movilidad Humana at the Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores y Movilidad Humana, a role assumed in April 2023, as well as Ministro del Ambiente y Agua at Ministerio del Ambiente y Agua since May 2021. Additionally, Gustavo leads the Fundación Latinoamerica Verde as Presidente of the Premios Latinoamerica Verde, recognizing the top 500 environmental and social projects in Latin America since August 2013. Previously, Gustavo was Presidente del Directorio at CORPEI from 2010 to October 2016. Educational qualifications include a degree in Agronomy from Universidad EARTH and advanced management programs from INCAE Business School focused on Sustainability and Executive Management.

The Ministry of the Environment and Water, in accordance with the stipulations of the Ecuadorian people in the Political Constitution of the Republic of Ecuador of 2008, will ensure a healthy environment, respect for the rights of nature or pacha mama. It will guarantee a sustainable model of environmentally balanced development that respects cultural diversity, conserves biodiversity and the natural regeneration capacity of ecosystems, and ensures the satisfaction of the needs of present and future generations.
