Mary van Andel

Mary van Andel is an accomplished veterinary epidemiologist currently serving as the Chief Veterinary Officer at the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) in New Zealand since August 2021. Prior to this role, Mary held various significant positions at MPI, including Principal Advisor Epidemiology in the COVID directorate and Mycoplasma bovis programme, and Principal Advisor to the Chief Scientist. With extensive experience in animal health, diagnostic services, and surveillance, Mary has contributed to the investigation of exotic disease cases as an Incursion Investigator. Mary possesses advanced academic qualifications, including a Doctor of Philosophy in Epidemiology and multiple degrees in veterinary sciences from Massey University and the University of Pretoria, along with active membership in the Epidemiology Chapter of the Australia and New Zealand Association of Veterinary Scientists.
