George Mason

George Mason is a Doctoral Candidate at the School of Regulation and Global Governance (RegNet) since February 2024, focusing on regulator failure through case studies from Australia and New Zealand with theoretical frameworks in politics and sociology. Mason's extensive experience includes serving as the Director of Regulatory Environment at the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment since October 2021, where strategic and operational advice on New Zealand's regulatory environment is provided. Prior roles at the Ministry included General Manager for Workplace Relations and Safety Policy, Employment Services, and Labour Inspectorate, emphasizing employment relations, safety policy, and enforcement of employment standards. Mason also held the position of Deputy Chief Executive Legal and International at the NZ Department of Labour, overseeing legal advisement and international relations. Mason holds a Bachelor's degree in Law from Victoria University of Wellington, obtained between 1987 and 1992.
