Paul Helm

Paul Helm currently serves as the Chief Financial Officer at the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment since January 2023. Prior to this role, Paul had a brief tenure as a Finance Executive, focusing on contract work with the New Zealand Auditor General related to health sector changes. From October 2014 to December 2021, Paul was the Chief Government Accountant and Head of Finance Profession for the State Sector at The Treasury, emphasizing financial management professionalism across the public sector. Previous notable positions include CFO at the NZ Transport Agency, where Paul led significant transformations, as well as CFO roles at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the Ministry of Health, managing substantial financial portfolios. Paul began the career as an Audit Director at Audit NZ, auditing government departments and local authorities. Academic qualifications include an Executive Masters in Public Administration from Victoria University of Wellington and a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting and Finance from Sheffield Hallam University.
