Robin Thiers, PhD, serves as the Deputy Head of Mission and Head of Cooperation at the Belgian Embassy in Dakar since May 2019, with prior roles including policy advisor at the Directorate-General for Development Cooperation and First Secretary for Cooperation in Kigali and political advisor in Bamako. Thiers has extensive experience in diplomatic services and research, holding positions such as UNV Expert in Agriculture and Food Security at UNDP and FWO Doctoral Research Fellow at Ghent University, where a dissertation titled “Tales of the Post-plantation” was published and won the 2024 John C award. Academic qualifications include a PhD in Political Sciences from Ghent University, an MSc in Globalisation and Development from SOAS University of London, and an MA in Comparative and International Politics from KU Leuven, along with experience as a seminar facilitator and teaching assistant.
