Sean Malthouse

Sean Malthouse has a diverse work experience in the field of information security, risk management, and assurance. From 1996 to 1999, they worked as a Technical Team Leader at Ricoh Ltd. Following that, they joined Gen-i Ltd in 1999 as an IT Systems Engineer, where their responsibilities included enterprise systems management, security incident response, and customer relationships. In 2005, they joined Optimation NZ Ltd as a Senior Consultant, specializing in security and infrastructure consulting services.

In 2008, Sean joined the Department of Labour as a Senior ICT Security Adviser and later became the Principal Adviser Information Security in 2011. Sean'srole involved providing expertise in information security and implementing security measures within the department.

In 2012, they moved to the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment and held the role of Security Improvement Programme Manager. Sean was responsible for establishing a robust and sustainable organizational security program, developing security policies and guidelines, and conducting security awareness training.

From 2014 to 2016, Sean served as the Director of Security for the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment. In this position, they were responsible for leading the Security Team, implementing a security program, and fostering a positive security culture among staff and suppliers.

Since 2016, Sean has been working at the Ministry of Justice - New Zealand. Sean has held the roles of Director ICT Security, Risk & Assurance and currently serves as the GM Resilience and Assurance Services, CISO, and CPO. In these positions, they have been responsible for ensuring the resilience and security of the organization's information systems and data, as well as overseeing privacy and assurance services.

Sean is CISSP, CISA, CISM, and CRISC certified, demonstrating their expertise and knowledge in the field of information security and risk management.

Sean Malthouse attended Heretaunga College from 1981 to 1986. Sean obtained additional certifications including Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control™ (CRISC) from ISACA in 2022, Certified Information Security Manager® (CISM) from ISACA in 2007, and Certified Information Systems Auditor® (CISA) from ISACA in 2007.
