Mike Metzger, Ph.D. has extensive work experience in the agricultural industry. Mike started their career at American Crystal Sugar Company in 1996, where they served as the Biotechnology Lab Manager until 2001. In 2001, they joined Minn-Dak Farmers Cooperative as an Agriculturist and later moved on to become a Research Agronomist in 2011. Most recently, they have held the position of Vice President - Agriculture & Research at Minn-Dak Farmers Cooperative since April 2019.
Mike Metzger, Ph.D. pursued their education at North Dakota State University. Mike earned their Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Microbiology from 1996 to 2000. Following this, they obtained a Master's degree in Plant Pathology from 2000 to 2002. Subsequently, Dr. Metzger earned their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Plant Pathology/Phytopathology from 2012 to 2018.

Minn-Dak Farmers Cooperative (MDFC) is located in Wahpeton, a city in the southeast corner of North Dakota, in the heart of the Red River Valley. MDFC has a 1200 acre footprint in Richland County, North Dakota. The Cooperative is owned by approximately 500 sugarbeet Shareholders/Growers who collectively grow 115,000 acres of sugarbeets and is part of the domestic sweetener industry. MDFC employs about 304 year-round, 147 seasonal and 295 harvest employees MDFC Shareholders produce sugarbeets for processing at the Cooperative’s plant in Wahpeton.
