Michael James Olson is an accomplished academic and music industry professional currently serving as the Interim Dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences and as a Professor and Distinguished Faculty Scholar in Communication and Media at Minnesota State University, Mankato since July 2015. Olson directs, teaches, and conducts research within the Music Industry Program, which focuses on various aspects of audio production, songwriting, and media communication. Previously, Olson held positions as an Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Music, along with teaching roles at Jacksonville University and Ball State University. In addition to academic contributions, Olson is active as a Producer and Songwriter for Columbia Sounds, and has experience working commercially in the music industry. Olson holds a Doctor of Arts in Music Theory and Composition from Ball State University, a Master of Music in Music Technology from Georgia Southern University, and a Bachelor of Music in Music Industry from Minnesota State Moorhead.
