Katie Hall, Ph.D. has a diverse background in animal behavior and welfare. Katie is currently the Director of Animal Behavior and Wellbeing at the Minnesota Zoo. Prior to this, they worked as the Coordinator of Animal Welfare and Behavioral Husbandry at the Sedgwick County Zoo from 2019 to 2023. From 2016 to 2018, they were a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Chicago Zoological Society/Brookfield Zoo. Katie also gained experience as a Postdoctoral Fellow at MD Anderson Cancer Center from 2013 to 2015. In addition, they worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at Georgia State University in 2013, studying nonhuman primates' responses to inequitable outcomes. Katie's earlier experience includes roles as an Affiliated Researcher at the University of Hamburg in 2012, where they collected data for a PhD dissertation, and as a PhD candidate at the University of St Andrews from 2008 to 2012, investigating chimpanzees' use of gaze cues. Katie also worked as an Affiliated Postgraduate Researcher at the Living Links Center, Yerkes NPRC, Emory University from 2009 to 2010, and as a Postgraduate Researcher at the Living Links Centre, Edinburgh Zoo in 2008. Earlier in their career, they gained field experience as a Field Assistant for the Budongo Forest Project, Oxford University in 2008, studying chimpanzees in the Kasokwa forest fragment.
Katie Hall, Ph.D. completed their education with a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Psychology from the University of St Andrews from 2008 to 2012. Prior to that, they received a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Biological Anthropology and Spanish Literature from UC San Diego from 2003 to 2007. Katie also studied Literatura Espanola at Universitat de Barcelona from 2005 to 2006.
