Nicholas A. Butto

Associate at Mintz

Nicholas focuses his practice on complex commercial litigation, securities litigation, and government enforcement proceedings. He has experience guiding clients through all stages of litigation and arbitration, including leading e-discovery efforts, drafting briefs and motions, conducting witness interviews, preparing witnesses to testify at trial or arbitration, and negotiating settlements. His practice also encompasses advising clients on government and internal investigations.

Nicholas also maintains an active pro bono practice that has included immigration, prison release, and family separation matters. In one engagement, he prepared plaintiffs and expert witnesses for trial testimony, helping to secure a $26 million jury verdict.

Prior to joining Mintz, Nicholas was a litigation associate at a global law firm, where he handled a broad spectrum of litigation and arbitration and counseled clients on government and regulatory enforcement matters. He also was a summer associate and earlier a litigation paralegal at the firm.

While earning his JD, Nicholas also served as a criminal justice legal intern with the Urban Justice Center's Sex Workers Project in New York. In law school, he served as executive editor of the Georgetown Law Journal, a summer research assistant for the Annual Review of Criminal Procedure, and a law fellow for the Legal Research and Writing course. He was also president of the Pro Bono Advisory Board and participated in the school's Domestic Violence Clinic.
