Minutemen Alternative Investment Fund

The Minutemen Alternative Investment Fund is a student-led asset management fund at the Isenberg School of Management. With a strong alternative investment background (Isenberg is the founder of the Chartered Alternative Investment Association and the home of the Center for International Securities and Derivatives Markets) our group explores a variety of alternative strategies to broaden our investment exposure through hands on, real-time investing. Both our Long/Short and Derivative groups have 30+ members who conduct equity research, perform continuing coverage, and execute trades to incessantly chase alpha on a daily basis. Analysts utilize an array of research approaches and data sources when determining what securities and vehicles to invest in. Our Derivatives and Pairs strategies remain important secondary strategies, focusing on areas such as futures, foreign exchange, and options vehicles. We believe it is important for our members to understand core research methods while embracing different perspectives. Our new members are automatically enrolled in a curriculum run by senior members in order to develop consistent core research methods such as comp tables, DCF analysis, Porter's five forces, technical analysis, and other fundamental research methods. MAIF is one of three student run funds on campus whose mission is to further opportunities for members who wish to pursue careers in high finance, all while providing them with hands on technical training to actually do so. Past alumni have placed into firms at the likes of Goldman Sachs, Citigroup, Bridgewater Associates, Guggenheim, Cantor Fitzgerald, Stephens, J.P. Morgan, BNY Mellon, Alvarez & Marsal, UBS, and dozens of other distinguished shops on the street. To learn more please contact maif.umass@gmail.com
