Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team
Omowonuola Akintola is a geospatial and data specialist currently working at the United Nations University - Institute for Environment and Human Security (UNU-EHS) in the Earth Observation and GIS role since July 2025, while also serving with the Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team since December 2022. Previously, Omowonuola co-founded Geoluminous Co. Ltd, focusing on Map Art and promoting Women in GIS from December 2021 to July 2025. Additional experience includes roles as a Co-host for the Africa Geospatial Conversation podcast, a Remote Mapping Consultant for INTEGRATION Consulting Group, an Associate Geospatial Data Analyst with OEA Consults, and a GIS Intern at Cooperative Information Network. Omowonuola holds a Master of Science in Geo-Informatics and Earth Observation from Universität Salzburg, and a Bachelor of Science in Surveying and Geo-informatics from Obafemi Awolowo University, complemented by a Nanodegree in Business Analytics from Udacity.
