Cristina Cañero

Senior Director, Research at Mitek Systems

Cristina Cañero has extensive experience in the field of computer vision and research. Cristina currently holds the role of Senior Director of Research at Mitek Systems. Prior to this, they worked at ICAR Vision Systems where they served as the Research Manager from 2013 to 2017 and as the Chief Technology Officer from 2007 to 2012. In these roles, they were responsible for developing software and hardware for reading and authenticating ID documents and passports. Cristina also supervised customer service and oversaw personalization and adaptation developments. Before joining ICAR Vision Systems, Cristina worked at Fundació CIM as a Teaching Master in Automated Production and Robotics from 2006 to 2011. Cristina also gained experience as a Project Manager and Analyst at Computer Vision Center from 2004 to 2007. Additionally, they held the position of Marie Curie Post-doctoral Fellow at Informatics & Telematics Institute from 2003 to 2004. Cristina began their career as a Research Fellow at Computer Vision Center, where they focused on the 3D reconstruction of coronary vessels from X-ray angiographies, leading to the completion of their PhD in Computer Science in 2002.

Cristina Cañero obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Computer Science with a specialization in Computer Vision from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona in 2003. Cristina also holds a Master's degree in Advanced Project Management from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, which they completed in 2007. In addition to their formal education, Cristina has obtained various certifications, including one in Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence Security Risk from LinkedIn in 2022, and several Coursera Course Certificates in topics such as Deep Neural Networks and Optimization. Cristina also holds certifications in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Automated External Defibrillator from the Consell Català de Ressuscitació (CCR).
