Marie Herring

Marie Herring has a diverse range of work experience in scientific research and development. Marie is currently working as a Staff Scientist at Mitra Chem since August 2021. Prior to this, they worked at Carbon from April 2018 to August 2021, where they held multiple roles including Staff Scientist, Senior Research Scientist, and Research Scientist. During their time at Carbon, they played a crucial role in the development of dental products and also led a project during the COVID-19 pandemic, where they served as the Technical Project Manager for COVID response related to 3D printing of nasopharyngeal testing swabs.

Before joining Carbon, Marie worked as an R&D Engineer at Facebook from August 2016 to January 2017. Marie also served as a Visiting Scholar at Stanford University from September 2015 to May 2016, where they developed new polymer lenses for the Foldscope and worked on education and distribution in India through Foldscope workshops.

Marie's earlier work experience includes a role as a Research Scientist at ReForm Biologics from October 2014 to August 2015, where they focused on novel formulations for biotherapeutics. Marie also worked as a Research Scientist at Soane Energy from May 2011 to August 2015, where they developed products and processes for the oil and gas industry, with a particular emphasis on clean technology. Their patented work at Soane Energy includes the development of Self-Suspending Proppant and Rapidly Inverting Polymer Emulsions.

Marie's earlier experiences include working as a Tutor at the Center for Excellence in Education from June 2011 to August 2011, where they helped students participating in a summer science program with their research projects. Marie also worked as an Undergraduate Researcher at MIT (Ceyer Lab) from September 2009 to January 2011, where they analyzed mechanisms of adsorption and interaction on gold-doped nickel surfaces. Additionally, Marie gained industry experience as an Intern at Bayer Pharmaceuticals from June 2009 to August 2009.
