Maria O'Brien is a Partner at Modrall Sperling, specializing in Natural Resources, Environmental, and Utility law since February 1998. The primary focus of O'Brien's practice is on water law, encompassing water resources, water quality, and related regulatory matters, including compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act and the Endangered Species Act. O'Brien has experience representing clients from both the public and private sectors before the Office of the New Mexico State Engineer, the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission, and in state and federal courts. Prior to this role, O'Brien served as a Judicial Law Clerk for The Honorable James A. Parker in the United States District Court for the District of New Mexico from September 1992 to September 1994. O'Brien holds a Juris Doctor (J.D.) from the University of New Mexico School of Law, a Master's Degree in Botany from the University of Rhode Island, and a Bachelor's Degree in Human Ecology from Connecticut College.
