Ashley Sproles has worked in a variety of scientific roles since 2008. Ashley began their career as a Laboratory Assistant at the Florida Institute of Technology, where they prepared and examined Florida apple snail eggshells and brittle star jaw plates with scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Ashley then worked as a Field & Laboratory Assistant at FAU Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute, where they assisted in the collection of coral fragments, tissue processing, and data analysis for the St. Lucie Reef monitoring project and black band disease research in the Florida Keys corals. From 2012 to 2013, Sproles was a PhD Researcher at Victoria University of Wellington, where they planned, executed, and published novel research investigating the impact of hosting thermally tolerant symbionts on cnidarian hosts. Ashley also served as a Teaching Assistant. In 2018, Sproles worked as a Researcher at SMSbiotech, where they managed the set-up of cell culture, molecular biology, and all-purpose laboratories in a new research and design facility. Ashley also worked as a Postdoctoral Scholar at UC San Diego, where they developed advanced genetic tools for the engineering of green algae to produce sustainable commercial bioproducts. Currently, Sproles works as a Scientist II at Molecular Assemblies, Inc.
Ashley Sproles has a Doctor of Philosophy - PhD in Marine Biology and Biological Oceanography from Victoria University of Wellington, which they obtained from 2013 to 2017. Ashley also has a Bachelor's degree in Marine Biology and Conservation Ecology from the Florida Institute of Technology, which they obtained from 2008 to 2012. In addition, they have a Bachelor of Science - BS in Marine Biology and Biological Oceanography from the Florida Institute of Technology, which they obtained from 2008 to 2012.
