Dr. Charlotte Birkmanis is a Research Fellow at the Max Planck - Queensland Centre, focusing on marine biology and shark ecology, with ongoing research on shark and bony fish behavior, diet, and distribution. In addition, Charlotte serves as a National Executive for Communications at the Australian Marine Sciences Association and holds various roles in science communication, including Presenter and Producer for The Naked Scientists and Science Writer for Nature Portfolio. As an Adjunct Research Fellow at The UWA Oceans Institute, Charlotte explores shark movement, climate change impacts, and the coexistence of wildlife and offshore renewables. Charlotte's expertise also extends to educational roles, such as Facilitator for Nature Masterclasses and a Visiting Associate at Queensland University of Technology. With a robust academic background, including a PhD in Marine Biology from The University of Western Australia, Charlotte actively promotes gender equity in STEM as a "Superstar of STEM" while contributing pro-bono services to multiple marine science organizations.
