Michelle Iwamoto-Fan has extensive work experience in the field of intellectual property law. Michelle is currently the Vice President of Intellectual Property & Chief Patent Counsel at Molecular Templates, a position they have held since March 2020. Prior to this, Michelle served as the Senior Director and Head of Intellectual Property at Intercept Pharmaceuticals from January 2016 to March 2020, and as the Director of Legal Affairs and Head of Intellectual Property from September 2014 to December 2015. Michelle also worked at Forest Laboratories as the Director of Patent Counsel from February 2013 to September 2014, and as the Associate Director of Patent Counsel from June 2012 to February 2013. Michelle began their legal career as an Associate Attorney at Mintz Levin Cohn Ferris Glovsky & Popeo P.C. from February 2010 to June 2012, after starting as a Technology Specialist and Registered Patent Agent from January 2006 to February 2010. Michelle started their professional journey as a Registered Patent Agent and Scientific Advisor at Frommer Lawrence & Haug LLP from August 2002 to December 2005.
Michelle Iwamoto-Fan pursued their education in a sequential manner. Michelle first attended Smith College from 1994 to 1998, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biochemistry and European History. Following that, they went on to study at Stony Brook University from 1998 to 2003, where they obtained a Ph.D. in Molecular and Cellular Pharmacology. Later, Michelle pursued their interest in law and enrolled at St. John's University School of Law from 2005 to 2009, graduating with a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree, specializing in Law.
