Phil Whelan

Phil Whelan has over 10 years of experience in the software engineering industry. In 2021, they began working as a Senior Principal Software Engineer at Momentum.io. In 2020, they worked as a DevOps Engineer at Colony Networks, helping to set up application secrets management, integrating Kubernetes (GKE) and GCP Secret Manager on Google Cloud Platform, and introducing Terraform for deploying Kubernetes clusters and IAM configuration. From 2017-2020, they worked at Bench Accounting, first as a Principal Software Engineer and then as Platform Team Lead. In this role, they rewrote the company's Machine Learning code using Tensorflow 2, simplifying it, increasing accuracy from ~80% to ~90%, and reducing false positives. From 2015-2017, they worked at Otono as a Backend Developer and Frontend Lead. In 2015, they worked briefly as an Engineering Manager for Hewlett-Packard's Helion Cloud Foundry. From 2012-2015, they worked at ActiveState, first as Director of Engineering for Stackato, then as Software Architect, then as Technology Evangelist, and finally as a Software Developer. In 2013, they organized DevOps Days Vancouver. In 2012, they founded FluidFeatures, an API for real-time graceful rollout of new software features, while also working at ActiveState. In 2011, they worked as Lead Developer at COOQ.com and as a Software Developer at Cloudera.

Phil Whelan's education history includes a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Cybernetics from the University of Reading, which they obtained between 1995 and 1998.
