David Newell has extensive experience in law enforcement and technical roles, currently serving as a Deputy Sheriff Jailor with the Monroe County Sheriff since February 2015. Prior to this position, David worked as a Natural Stone Installer at MCM Natural Stone and as a Residential Window Repair Specialist at RAY SANDS GLASS. David's career began in the United States Marine Corps from 2002 to 2008, where involvement as an Electrical Equipment Repair Specialist included diagnosing and logging repairs on various electrical components. David holds a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from City University of New York John Jay College and has completed education at SUNY Broome Community College, along with training at the United States Marine Corps Engineer School.

The Sheriff's Office provides law enforcement service to all of the Florida Keys, which include approximately 125 miles of islands branching off the southern tip of Florida. The main and only highway, U.S. 1 runs from Florida City to Key West, and in that span, there are 42 bridges connecting the islands.
