Ali Mahdavi-Amiri

Director of Research at Monsters Aliens Robots Zombies

Ali Mahdavi-Amiri is the current Director of Research at Monsters Aliens Robots Zombies. Prior to this, they were a R&D Software Engineer at Softree Technical Systems from July 2017 to May 2018. There, they added new features to the road design software, including a set of thinning algorithms for Lidar data sets and a live map with the ability to save high resolution images of arbitrary locations using GMap and MapBox. From May 2016 to February 2017, Ali was the Editor in Chief of the Computer Science/Engineering Academic Journal. Ali has also been a University Research Associate at Simon Fraser University from January 2019 to May 2021, and an NSERC Postdoctoral Fellow at Simon Fraser University from January 2017 to December 2018. Finally, they were involved in a research collaboration with PYXIS Innovation from January 2009 to December 2016.

Ali Mahdavi-Amiri holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Computer Science from the University of Calgary, a Master of Science in Computer Science from Sharif University of Technology, and a Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering from Ferdowsi University of Mashhad. Ali also holds Coursera Course Certificates in Machine Learning, Software Processes and Agile Practices, The Data Scientist’s Toolbox, and Image and Video Processing: From Mars to Hollywood with a Stop at the Hospital. In addition, they have earned a University Teaching Certificate and an Instructional Skills Workshop Certificate from the University of Calgary.
