James Fehr MBA, SPHR has a diverse work experience spanning various organizations and roles. James currently serves as the Deputy Director of the Montana Department of Environmental Quality, where they oversee the department's operations programs and represents the department in various situations. Prior to this, James was the Chief Human Resources Officer at the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services, where they played a crucial role in leading the agency's vision and mission. James also has experience as a Human Resources Director at the City of Helena, Montana, managing the HR department's budget and serving on the board of directors of the Montana Municipal Interlocal Authority. James has also held positions such as Human Resources Manager at the Montana Department of Environmental Quality and the Montana Department of Revenue. James began their career at Vann's Electronics and Appliances, where they worked as both a Location Manager and Assistant Location Manager, overseeing personnel administration and HR functions. Throughout their career, James has demonstrated their expertise in strategic planning, change management, performance management, and team development.

James Fehr earned their Bachelor's of Science degree in Business Administration and Management from the University of Montana, completing their studies from 1993 to 1998. James then pursued a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree, specializing in Business Administration and Management, General, also from the University of Montana, finishing their program in 1999. In addition to their academic achievements, James has obtained several certifications in the field of human resources, including the Senior Professional in Human Resources® (SPHR®) Certification from HRCI in June 2010. James also holds the Certified Labor Relations Professional (CLRP) designation from the National PELRA, which they received in September 2018.
