Michael Trotter

Michael Trotter is the Interim VP for Information Technology at Montana State University. Michael has been in this role since November 2016, and has been with the university since June 2021. Prior to their current position, they served as the Vice President/CIO (Interim) at Montana State University-Bozeman. In this role, they reported to MSU's President, Dr. Waded Cruzado, and served as a member of the senior university leadership. Michael provided strategic vision and oversight of information technology across all campuses of the MSU system, and served as the IT liaison to the Montana University System (MUS). Michael also oversaw information technology personnel across the Bozeman campus through shared service reporting relationships. In addition, they coordinated these responsibilities with a variety of constituents including but not limited to: the main campus in Bozeman with its colleges, research centers and other institutional units; its remote nursing campuses; Montana Agricultural Experiment stations; MSU Extension; affiliated campuses in Billings, Great Falls, and Havre; other campuses of the Montana University System; the Office of the Commissioner of Higher Education, State of Montana; federal agencies; and outside service providers associated with information technology activities.
