Dominique Ducharme was officially named the 31st head coach in Montreal Canadiens history on July 13, 2021.

He was promoted to interim head coach on February 24, 2021 after serving as an assistant coach for two seasons. In the role, he led the team to its first Stanley Cup Final appearance since 1993.

Having joined the Canadiens' coaching staff on April 27, 2018, Ducharme previously spent 10 seasons coaching in the QMJHL, including the last seven, from 2011 to 2018, as head coach with the Halifax Mooseheads (2011-16) and the Drummondville Voltigeurs (2016-18). Following the 2017-18 season, he was awarded the Paul Dumont trophy as the league's Personality of the Year.

At the helm of the Halifax Mooseheads from 2011 to 2018, Ducharme posted a record of 255-158-37 in 450 games. In 2012-13 his team led the CHL with a record of 58-6-3-1, earning him the Ron Lapointe Award as the QMJHL's Coach of the Year. In the playoffs, the Joliette native had a record of 49 wins and 29 losses and also captured the Memorial Cup in 2013. On the international stage, Ducharme was an assistant with the Canadian squad at the 2011 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge, and again for the Canada Under-18 National Team at the 2013 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament. He was Canada's Head Coach at the 2017 and 2018 World Junior Championship successively winning silver and gold.

In 2002-03, following a 15-year career as a player in Quebec and France, Ducharme made his coaching debut as an assistant with the UQTR Patriotes. He also coached the Joliette team in the QJAAAHL before making the jump to the QMJHL with the Montreal Junior in 2008-09.
