Tom von Schrader (PE, LEED AP) has been at the forefront of integrated green infrastructure for nearly 40 years. Nationally recognized as an innovator and thought leader in complete streets, Tom has combined the principles of safe access for all users with green infrastructure strategies to create sustainable corridors, streetscapes, and civic enhancements in towns and cities across the country. His thoughtful leadership and collaborative management style help project teams partner with clients to implement multidimensional designs that balance community development needs, right-of-way demands, and environmental objectives in a cost-effective manner. From high-level concepts to technical solutions, Tom integrates civil engineering and applied ecology to think outside the box to find answers that address multiple problems like street calming while draining stormwater. He has contributed his expertise to every type of infrastructure project from streets, sidewalks, and parks to schools, city halls, and community centers. Throughout his career, Tom has helped communities of every size successfully use strategies such as rainwater harvesting systems, pervious surfacing, green roofs, and natural bioretention systems to enhance aesthetics while improving mobility and function.
