Derrick R. Brooms

Derrick R. Brooms currently serves as the Executive Director of the Black Men's Research Institute and Professor of Africana Studies at Morehouse College since July 2023. Prior to this, Derrick R. Brooms was a Professor of Africana Studies and Sociology at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where roles included Associate Department Head and Co-Director of Undergraduate Studies from August 2021 to July 2023. Earlier experience includes positions at the University of Cincinnati as Associate Professor, Department Head of Sociology, and faculty affiliate in various programs from August 2017 to July 2021, and at the University of Louisville as Assistant/Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology from 2012 to 2017. Throughout this career, Derrick R. Brooms has engaged in initiatives focusing on African American male advocacy and diversity within academic institutions.
